Vegetarian choices at the Winking Prawn and co.

Life at The Winking Prawn is largely about enjoying local seafood as you look out onto (hopefully) sunny scenes, with a Prawn Juice in hand and toes covered in sand after a day building sandcastles on the beach.

While the emphasis is on seafood however, we want everyone to feel happy and welcome when they visit us at The Winking Prawn and its sister restaurants, and we work hard to make sure that options including gluten free cakes, Island Street’s gluten free southern fried chicken, and vegetarian meals feature on our menus.

Warm goats cheese salads with Mediterranean vegetables are a firm favourite for lunch at The Winking Prawn and The Cracking Crab, while baguettes filled with goat’s cheese, olives, dried cranberries and seeds with a drizzle of balsamic syrup go brilliantly with summer weather and a glass of wine in the late afternoon.

Halloumi is a regular feature at all of our venues, whether it’s on the WP barbecue in the summer months, char grilled and teamed with courgette, aubergine, onion, tomato and basil or in the form of one of Island Street Bar & Grill’s halloumi burger, carefully crafted by master chef and ultimate foodie, Nick Laver Vincent.

As you know, the evening menu at Sailor V changes year on year in the summer months, but lunchtime classics continue to include the Veggie Dog with a veggie sausage and a topping of choice, the cannelloni or the cheese and tomato croissant melt, which goes down especially well when it’s chilly outside and you need a little something to put a smile on your face.

For an absolute classic of course, you can’t go wrong with a jacket potato, whether it’s an old school favourite topped with baked beans or with goat’s cheese and caramelised red onion - an old favourite, with a Sailor V twist!
