About Us

The latest addition to The Winking Prawn Group, The Cracking Crab in Polzeath is a stone’s throw from Polzeath Beach itself. Our beach chic seaside restaurant is a relaxed cafe and restaurant where everyone’s welcome and our clifftop location makes it ideal for outdoor lunches or a glass of something crisp at sunset.

Open for open for breakfast, lunch, dinner, teas, coffees and plenty of ice cream throughout the week, The Cracking Crab is a family friendly restaurant. Inside it’s all eclectic interiors featuring local artwork and a combination of cosy booths and tables, so it’s perfect for groups of friends, families and couples, whether you’re popping in for a quick cup of tea and a brownie (or two) or celebrating a special occasion over dinner.

We welcome children of all ages with a kids menu, a garden to run around in and a dressing up box… although we can’t promise it’s just the children who will have a giggle with that!

As our name might suggest, our menu focuses largely on seafood, especially as we’re so lucky to have such wonderful local produce close by. However, we also try to provide something for everyone. So while there’s fish by the bucket load, we also serve juicy West Country steaks off the grill and the bar is always fully stocked with chilled craft beers, ciders and wine. Classic foodie favourites include our fruits de mer and popcorn shrimp in the best of Cornish surf style.

We do have a small selection of gluten free and vegetarian options available. While the size of our kitchen makes it hard for us to stray too far from the menu, if you would like to visit for dinner and have a particular dietary requirement we ask that you contact us in advance and we will do everything we can to adapt a chosen dish.

In short, The Cracking Crab can be whatever you want it to be; fun for the whole family (including the dog), a hot spot for breakfast, a leisurely lunch watching the surf, a resting place for a cup of tea after a walk along the coast path or an awesome place to watch the sun setting over sundowners before supper.

We do have seasonal opening times so please keep an eye on the website before visiting, and while there’s no need to book for breakfast or lunch, we do ask that you make a reservation online for dinner.
